I was born in Mexico, lived in Chicago for many years and have been in Austin, Texas for many more. Various Mexican craft traditions and their folklore have inspired me in my life as an artist: silver jewelry, painting and paper mache are the three big areas I like to explore, although other materials attract me as well.

The Calaveras (skeletons) are rooted in the Day of the Dead traditions and in the humor that has evolved over the last 100 years. Some of my work is playful while others are dark, exploring the corruption in society, nightmares, and the destruction of our environment. Some people describe my paintings as surrealistic.
Mexican retablos have a long history of story telling through one image. They might celebrate a mythical event, narrate a feat or zoom in on a death bed, the final moments of reckoning. Many of my paintings talk about these things.
Monsters, mermaids, skeletons, dinosaurs and other creatures show up often in my work. I am self taught and have my own style. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
